Wozniak, Couet, Corcoran named 2020-21 Captains

WICHITA FALLS, TX — The Wichita Falls Warriors are pleased to reveal the team captains for the 2020-21 season.

“The most important part of building an expansion team is having the leadership in place to create a good environment and culture,” Head Coach Garrett Roth said. “We are pleased to announce that Jackson Wozniak will be our first captain in team history. He is a high character young man that has the respect of his coaches and every one of his teammates. He is a leader on and off the ice.”

Jackson Wozniak will wear the C as the Warriors’ first captain. The veteran forward comes to the Warriors with prior leadership experience, as he also captained the Grande Prairie Storm (AJHL) last season, where he recorded 9 goals and 20 assists in 53 games.

“It feels pretty amazing to know that my teammates trust me with this role on the team. This group hasn’t been together long but are already so tight,” Wozniak said. “Being a new franchise there is a lot of pressure to be good and the coaching staff has put together a great group of guys and I’m just excited for the opportunity to help lead this team.”

“Brennan Couet and Vincent Corcoran have been named assistant captains. Brennan is a player that has an understanding of all the ups and downs a season may bring,” Roth said. “He brings an element to our team that younger players gravitate towards. His willingness to do whatever is asked of him shows exactly the type of character he is.”

Couet has three years of NAHL experience under his belt in the Central Division with the Minot Minotauros and the Minnesota Wilderness. “I’m very honored to be named one of the captains for this great group of guys,” Couet said. “With the players and coaches we have this season I believe we will be a very competitive team from the start!”

“Vinnie [Corcoran] has shown that along with the impact he will have for us on the ice, he brings a sense of quiet confidence that will be instrumental in the development of our team’s identity,” Roth said. “His attitude and mindset is exactly what we want our team to be all about.

The Warriors acquired the NAHL South veteran from the Kansas City Scouts in a dispersal draft this summer. Corcoran was a mainstay on the blue line for the Scouts (then the Pilots), playing in every game prior to the premature end of the season due to COVID-19.

“I am honored to be picked as an alternate captain on this team,” Corcoran said. “We have a special group of guys here in Wichita Falls. Most of us have experience in juniors, so we know what it takes to win hockey games. We are really excited to show the league and our fans what we are able to accomplish this year.”

The Warriors are set to begin the inaugural season on Saturday, October 24th at 7:05pm against the Odessa Jackalopes at the Kay Yeager Coliseum. Tickets for the home opener are still available here. The game will be streamed on HockeyTV for fans watching from home. Make sure to follow the Warriors on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for more updates.
