Warriors Fall Short at Lone Star Tuesday Night

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Wichita Falls Warriors (25-17-1-6) dropped their Tuesday night hockey matchup against The Lone Star Brahmas (34-15-1-0). In three straight games against the Brahmas the Warriors were only able to collect two points in their 4-3 win Saturday Night.

The first period in North Richland Hills would start out fairly slow. The two teams seemed as if they had to feel each other out once more even though they just had two matchups this past weekend. The Warriors had their first Power Play opportunity late in the first period but were unable to capitalize. In a first period that felt slower than usual and had very little stoppage in play, the first period from the NYTEX Sports Centre would end scoreless through the first twenty minutes.

In the second period, the floodgates had opened. The Warriors had been facing much penalty trouble in the second period this season. In the weekend set against the Brahmas, the Warriors had taken seven penalties combined in the second period over the two nights. Last night the Warriors once again had gotten into penalty trouble and took an early penalty which had led to the first goal of the game from Dawson Tritt (8). The power play goal would give the Brahmas a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, the Warriors would take another penalty and the Brahmas went right back to the power play. Just moments later Joey Baez (17) would make it a 2-0 game. As the Warriors found themselves in a quick 2-0 deficit, they would get a power play goal of themselves off a beautiful pass from Vince Corcoran (23) to Owen Baumgartner (5) to make it a 2-1 game. A combined three power play goals in the period, after forty minutes we stood at a 2-1 game.

In the third period, both goaltenders would face plenty of shots but held strong. The Warriors would put the pressure on late in the third but were unable to find the back of the net in the final twenty minutes of play. Goaltender Graham Burke of the Brahmas, who had played Friday night and then in relief on Saturday night had only let two goals in over the course of three games against the Warriors. In the tenth matchup this season between the two teams, the Lone Star Brahmas third period defensive effort would help them to secure a 2-1 victory over the Warriors on Tuesday night.

Owen Bartoszkiewicz recorded the loss for Wichita Falls. He recorded 19 saves on 21 shots faced.  Graham Burke recorded the win for Lone Star. He recorded 18 saves on 19 shots.
