WICHITA FALLS, TX- The Wichita Falls Warriors (1-2-0-2) dropped the first game against the New Mexico Ice Wolves (2-1-0-0) this season by a final of 4-2 on Friday, November 13.
The Ice Wolves started the game fast with two quick goals in the first 5:08 into the first period to take a 2-0 lead to the first intermission.
In the second period, the Warriors were able to cut into the deficit and tie the game. First, it was Thomas Weis (4) putting the Warriors on the board on a nice assist from Mac Wiseman (1) just 4:44 into the period. Then, it was Weis setting up Ryan Robinson (1) with a beautiful pass for his first goal of the season and tie the game 2-2. The game would be tied after 40 minutes of play and would head to the third all even at 2-2.
It was a back and forth start to the third period with neither side being able to break the tie. New Mexico would take a double-minor 9:37 into the period and the Warriors went on a 4 minute power play but would fail to cash in. Just minutes after the penalty expired, Jackson Wille (1) would put the Ice Wolves back in front with just under 7 minutes remaining. Then off of an offensive zone face-off, New Mexico would add an insurance goal as Cole Hanson (4) would score his second of the night. The Warriors put pressure on with the empty net in the final few minutes but could not find the back of the net and the Ice Wolves skated away with a 4-2 win.
Owen Parker (2-0-0-0) got the win with 38 saves for New Mexico. Ryan Ullan (0-1-0-1) got the loss with 24 saves for Wichita Falls. Wichita Falls led the shots on goal 40-28.
Next up, the Warriors host the Ice Wolves for the second game of the weekend series back at the Kay Yeager Coliseum on Saturday, November 14.
