WICHITA FALLS, TX – The Wichita Falls Warriors (0-1-0-1) were unable to find the back of the net in game two of the weekend series with the Odessa Jackalopes as the Jackalopes (2-0-0-0) swept the opening season series between the two South Division foes.
It was a slow first period as neither side was able to find a goal. Owen Bartoszkiewicz stopped all 11 shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes of play and was able to get the Warriors to the first intermission with no score.
In the second period the Jackalopes broke the ice on the score sheet as Ben Doherty scored 3:45 into the second frame. Then, Warriors defenseman Brennan Couet was called for a 5-minute major for charging 11:37 into the period when he collided with Jackalopes goaltender Connor Hasley. The Warriors penalty kill unit was able to kill off the major and keep the Jackalopes lead at 1-0 for the moment. Bartoszkiewicz made a spectacular diving save across his crease to stop a Jackalopes 2-on-1 rush. Odessa would add a second goal 14:38 into the period and take a 2-0 lead into the third period.
Just 3:01 into the third period, Odessa would take a 3-0 lead with a power play goal. The Warriors searched for that first goal throughout the third period but Hasley kept the door shut in net for Odessa. The Warriors pulled Bartoszkiewicz to get an extra attacker on the ice with a little over 4 minutes remaining trailing 3-0. Mike Manzo (3) would find the empty net for his second goal of the afternoon and give the Jackalopes a 4-0 victory in game two of the opening weekend series. Bartoszkiewicz finished the game with 28 saves on 31 shots faced for the Warriors.
Next up, the Warriors will welcome the Shreveport Mudbugs to the Kay Yeager Coliseum on Friday, November 6th. Puck drop is set for 7:05.
