NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Wichita Falls Warriors (2-0) defeated the Lone Star Brahmas (0-
2) by a score of 2-1. The Warriors late third period rally propelled them to victory as they are one
win away from round two of the Robertson Cup Playoffs.
It was a very fast and physical first period. Both teams right from the beginning applied
forecheck and became very physical. It was not until the 10 minute mark in the first period where
we would see our first goal of the game. It would be Luke Beerman (1) as he would break the scoreless tie and make it 1-0 Brahmas. This would be the first lead for the Brahmas in the series. Two
penalties each aside in the first period, neither team was successful on the man advantage as we
would be at a 1-0 Brahmas lead after the first 20 minutes.
As the second period would get underway, it was yet again a period of aggressiveness from both
teams. The Warriors would start the period on the man advantage but no sooner they would do so
Joseph Harguindeguy would take a penalty as we would transition to four on four hockey. Lone
Star would later take a penalty but the Warriors wouldn’t be able to capitalize. The Warriors
would go 0/4 on the power play in game two of the series. After another 20 minutes of play, the
Brahmas would still hold their 1-0 lead.
In the third period, there was much more offensive opportunity and generation from the
Warriors. Three minutes into the period, Cole Teleki (1) would get the Warriors on the board
from a shot that came beyond the face-off circles, as the Brahmas lead was no more as it was
now 1-1. There was not a ton of push back from the Brahmas as now the Warriors had started to
settle the puck down and create offensive generation through the neutral zone. With less then five
minutes to go in the period, Carter Korpi (2) would score his second goal of the playoffs on a
beautiful feed from Jackson Wozniak (1) and William Lawson-Body. The Warriors now we take
the lead 2-1 and would be moments away from a 2-0 series lead. As the final horn would sound,
behind the goaltending of Owen Bartoszkiewicz and the late third period rally the Warriors
would win 2-1 in game 2 and take a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Brahmas.
Owen Bartoszkiewicz (2-0) gets the win and made 32 saves on 33 shots. Guy Blessing (0-2)
would get the loss and make 15 saves on 17 shots.
The Warriors and Brahmas will face off in Game 3 of the series next Saturday at the Kay Yeager
Coliseum at 4:05pm in Wichita Falls, as the Warriors have an opportunity to win and move on.
