WICHITA FALLS, TX – The Wichita Falls Warriors are pleased to announce the tendering of 2003 defenseman Joe Calvarino.
The 6 foot 1, 176 pound, left handed defenseman hails from Brooklyn, NY and is eager to get to work with the Warriors. “I’m excited to get things started next year, they have a great group and are still young”, said Calvarino. Calvarino looks to join a Warriors defensive core that fits the style of game that he enjoys to play. “When I spoke with Head Coach Garrett Roth and Associate Head Coach Keenan Kelly, they seemed like great coaches and even better people. The team plays the style of game that I like to play. I am a puck moving defenseman who takes care of my own and likes to make offensive plays while playing with an edge.”
“We are excited to add a player of Calvarino’s caliber.”, said Warriors Associate Head Coach, Keenan Kelly. “He is an offensively gifted defenseman who brings great puck moving and play making ability to our defensive unit.”
This season with the Westchester Express, Calvarino has scored 10 goals and has assisted on 25 for a total of 35 points as a defenseman. “Westchester coaches Bob Thornton, Eric Conway and TJ Sarcona have helped me work on areas in my game to help prepare me for the next level”, said Calvarino, who now looks to transition his play to the North American Hockey League. “I will bring a passion for the game and a strong work ethic with the goal of helping the team in any way that I can, getting better each day.”
Associate Head Coach Kelly knows that the Warriors are not only getting a skilled defenseman, but a player who can be a great insertion to the team chemistry in Wichita Falls. “He has a great personality and eagerness to learn that our coaching staff believes will make a great addition to our locker room and team culture. We look forward to having Joe in Wichita Falls this upcoming season.”
