Warriors Top Ice Wolves 2-1 in OT

WICHITA FALLS, TX- The Wichita Falls Warriors (2-2-0-2) took the second game of the weekend series 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night, taking two points over the visiting New Mexico Ice Wolves (2-2-0-0).

It was a fast start for the Warriors on Saturday night.  Off of an Ice Wolves turnover in the neutral zone Wichita Falls found themselves with a 2-on-0 where Jeffrey Bertrand (2) would cross it over to Mac Wiseman (2) who put the Warriors up 1-0 4:57 into the first period.  Ryan Ullan (1-1-0-1) stopped all 10 shots he faced in the opening frame for the Warriors to help carry the 1-0 lead to the second period.

In the second period, the Warriors would take two penalties and the Ice Wolves would cash in on the first of two attempts.  On the power play, Dillan Bentley (2) would tie the game 1-1 just 11 seconds into the man advantage for New Mexico 13:36 into the period.  Both teams had quality scoring chances late in the second but the game would remain tied 1-1 heading into the third period.

A back and forth third period would lead to opportunities on both sides of the ice.  The Warriors were outshot 11-7 in the period but Ullan was perfect in net.  Neither team would find the back of the net at the end of regulation and the game would head to overtime.

In overtime, there were only a total of two shots on net between both teams, one for each side through the first four minutes of the five minute 3-on-3.  The third shot on goal in the overtime would be the difference.  with just 51 seconds remaining in the overtime, Ryan Robinson (3) would find the captain Jackson Wozniak (2) in the center of the zone and Wozniak showed great patience, picked his spot and won the game for Wichita Falls 2-1 in overtime.

The Warriors outshot the Ice Wolves 33-32 and that one shot ended up making all the difference.

Ryan Ullan (1-1-0-1) got the win for the Warriors recording 31 saves on 32 shots faced.  Henrik Laursen (0-0-1-0) got the loss in overtime recording 31 saves on 33 shots faced.

Next up, the Warriors will host the Lone Star Brahmas for a weekend series at the Kay Yeager Coliseum beginning on Friday, November 20.  Puck drop is set for 7:05 PM.
