Warriors Leading Scorer Signs With Black Bears
Wichita Falls, TX – The Wichita Falls Warriors are pleased to announce that forward Thomas Weis has officially committed to play Division I college hockey at the University of Maine.
“Maine reached out to me near the end of last season, and we’ve kept in touch since then,” Weis said. “In the past couple weeks or so, it just ramped up a bit. It’s a program with tons of tradition, tons of history, and a great coaching staff.”
“This is such a well deserved and great opportunity for T,” said Warriors head coach Garrett Roth. “He came here as a 1st overall selection in the draft, and from that day he had the mentality and work ethic to be a leader and a great teammate.”
Weis, 19, led the Warriors in scoring with 45 points in 52 games during the 2020-21 season. His 20 goals also led Wichita Falls, and his 25 assists were tied for second.
“[This commitment] takes some pressure off and lets me go out there and get better, and eventually make an impact right away at Maine,” Weis said. “I’m super excited, how can you not look forward to it?”
The Madison, Wisconsin native finished the 2020-21 season as an alternate captain for the first-year Warriors. He collected six points in six playoff games to help lead Wichita Falls to their first ever playoff win— and playoff series win— over Lone Star.
“The Warriors meant everything to me,” Weis said. “The coaches created an environment to succeed and get better, and I wouldn’t be here without them.”
“He helped create a competitive environment in practice, and proved he was a top player in this league day in and day out,” Roth said. “We are very proud of Thomas’ accomplishments this season and we are looking forward to following him at the University of Maine.”
